My favorite kind of Christmas tree...

DAY 343 - December 9, 2009

We FINALLY finished the Christmas tree tonight...well, "almost finished" I should say. The tree has been up with lights on waiting for a day when Doug was off work and we could decorate it together as a family. Tonight was that night. We dug out all the ornaments that have been around for years. Some of mine are from as far back as 1974...yes, I'm getting old! The boys also enjoy gathering theirs. They've each get one for Christmas every year that we make with their initials and the year they received it. **See below for a funny story about one of Kaleb's ornaments. In addition to that, we make ornaments every year to give to relatives that has their picture on it. It's fun to see how they've changed. The tree is just like I like it...with ornaments lasting through the years reminding us of moments in our lives. Sure, I like the "pretty" designer trees with their matching ornaments and colors but our Christmas tree means more to me.

When we were done putting the ornaments on the tree I decided that maybe we wouldn't do tinsel this year. With Lilly around and the mess it can sometimes make I thought we'd go without it this year...even though it's something I love and always remember from my younger years. Well, I said our tree was "almost finished" earlier in this post because I looked back at the tree after we were done putting the ornaments and definitely feel something is missing. Even with the lights and all the color from the ornaments it just looks dull to me. I think what's missing is the sparkle and movement of the tinsel...so I think we'll be putting that on again as usual. The tree just isn't "right" without it.
