Kaleb has been participating in intermurals at school whenever he can. He's currently in both volleyball and a "walk/run to Florida" one. Tonight I got a picture of the line of cars waiting to pick up the kids from volleyball. There's always a big line of cars funneling in and out to get the kids. They are very safe at JG-E and make sure the kids don't go until their parent's car is ready for them and the rest of the cars have stopped. I must have gotten here a bit early because I'm rarely required to wait in a line...guess I was on top of it for once on this day!
As a side note, the "walk/run to Florida" intermural is one where the kids are walking laps inside the school. Each time they pass a certain "finish line" they take a chip and place it in a box. The teachers will be adding up each chip (which apparently accounts for .66 mile. As I write this it's actually 3-4-09 and he had his first day yesterday on 3-3-09. He said the group had walked far enough between them to make it from Indianapolis to Kentucky. I love that he's interested in joining his friends in these activities. It's always such great exercise and the kids don't even realize it!
DAY 60 - March 1, 2009
Today was our last wrestling meet for the all-star traveling team - the Southport Wildcards. The boys did fantastic at this meet and Mamaw and Papaw were able to make it for the very last matches after coming down after church. Kaleb ended with a 2nd place medal and Kaden ended up getting 6th place and earned a participation ribbon. They both did a great job and and we're so proud of them as they finish their first season of wrestling!
Kaleb made us all breakfast this morning. It was a great breakfast but the did didn't start out so great for him. He came into my room at about 8:15am and asked where Doug was. I hadn't heard him get up but apparently he went down to do the treadmill. Anyway, Kaleb had a plate with him and said "I tried to do something nice this morning but the toaster wouldn't turn off and look what happened." I switched on the light and saw burnt toast. His eyes started welling up and he was really upset by the trouble he'd had with the toaster. I snuggled him in bed and reminded him of the expression "It's the thought that counts" and just had a few quiet minutes with him. I told him that I'd help him get breakfast going for everyone and it would all be fine.
We went downstairs and only then did I realize what had happened. In short, he was making toasted peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for us. Instead of toasting the bread and then adding the PB and J he was making the sandwich then putting the whole thing into the toaster. Now, we do have the wide slot toaster but it was still too wide and ended up getting stuck.
I instructed him on how to make it easier and took charge of toasting the bread while he put the PB and J on as well as opened up some oranges for us and arranged the slices nicely on each plate. Now, while I took charge of the toaster and did not have 2 slices in each slot I STILL managed to burn my first set of bread. I'll admit that I easily get sidetracked in the kitchen but that toaster also has issues. It will pop-up fine one time but then the next not pop up at all until the stench of burnt toast is throughout the kitchen and it's too late.
